A vision: «Green Low Countries» from the south of Europe

The world is changing and resources are becoming scarce. Spain is moving forward, step by step, towards cleaner sources of energy, combining the protection of the land with regional development. This educational initiative gathers public information, open data and outreach materials so that citizens can better understand the country's environmental progress.

Our work consists of explaining, clearly and rigorously, the main sustainable development programmes, ecosystem protection policies and the future of smart agriculture. All published information is provided for educational and informational purposes only.

Global warming and the role of outreach

Protected Mediterranean forest in its natural state

Global warming is one of the most significant challenges of our generation. Understanding the causes and consequences of climate change is essential for making informed decisions. Science outreach, in this regard, plays a social role: it translates complex data into messages that can be understood by every audience.

Reports published by European bodies between 2024 and 2026 indicate that the transition towards cleaner production models requires the active involvement of public administrations, local communities and citizens. Protecting the land, the Mediterranean forests and the wetlands is a shared priority. Environmental education, moreover, strengthens the collective awareness of responsible resource use.

Spain's role in green energy

Wind farm installed on an inland plateau of the peninsula

Because of its climate and landscape, Spain has remarkable potential when it comes to renewable energy. Solar irradiance, inland wind corridors and hydraulic storage capacity make it possible to build a balanced energy mix oriented towards a gradual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Spanish energy companies, in cooperation with public research centres, are working on the deployment of renewable infrastructures that respect local ecosystems. The shared aim is to reach the decarbonisation targets set for 2030, while at the same time supporting regional development, qualified employment and the technical training of new generations.

The future of agriculture: Agriculture 5.0

Crop field with agricultural monitoring sensors

Agriculture 5.0 brings together environmental sensors, efficient irrigation systems and crop models adapted to the Mediterranean climate. Its purpose is the protection of soils, the conservation of water and the improvement of food quality. It is an approach that combines the peninsular agricultural tradition with modern digital tools.

The future of agricultural production goes through cooperation between farmers, cooperatives, universities and public administrations. Knowledge transfer, the responsible use of water resources and the protection of biodiversity are key pillars in order to guarantee a resilient food system, prepared to face the climate challenges of the coming decades.

Three pillars for development

Development

We promote the sustainable development of the territory through scientific outreach and cooperation with public institutions.

Future

Understanding the future of energy and agriculture helps to make informed decisions today and in the decades ahead.

Protection

We reinforce the protection of peninsular ecosystems, Mediterranean forests and regional biodiversity.
